With the recent proliferation of indietronica duos, it’s proven difficult for many emerging pairs of producers and vocalists to create an original sound that doesn’t seem derivative. Nevertheless, the emphatic ANIMA!, hailing from South Africa and California, manage to draw inspiration from acts like Sylvan Esso, Made in Heights and Phantogram while still standing on their own. On their latest ‘Moving Mountains’, vocalist Arielle’s spectral voice and producer Vicente’s crisp and subtle production create an atmosphere both charming and uncanny.
