Black Don't Glow
Oxford, Mississippi’s Bass Drum of Death have been churning out skuzzed up, lo-fi rock and roll since 2008. Originally the solo project of frontman John Barrett, Bass Drum of Death possess a sound that can only be described like the river that borders its namesake state: muddy, yet complex with subtle intricacies you may not catch at first glance.
This week, the band has posted a new tune called “Black Don’t Glow,” slated to be released on Record Store Day 2014 as part of a cassette compilation only featuring Oxford bands. And it. Kicks. Ass. The first strums of Barrett’s guitar sound eerily similar to Steve Miller Band’s “Rock ‘N Me” and let you know right off the bat this is going to be a groover. The song has a slightly cleaner, less distorted quality to it while still staying true to the band’s loud and raucous sound.
Bass Drum of Death will be returning to the District on February 6th at the Black Cat. Stream “Black Don’t Glow” below.
