Billie Joe & Norah – Long Time Gone (Everly Brothers Cover)

“You’ll never guess who’s in this duet,” I said.

“Tyler Perry.”

“Okay, maybe it’s not actually that weird.” Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Norah Jones have teamed up to cover the 1958 Everly Brothers record Songs Our Daddy Taught Us, a collection of traditional country songs. (Nope, still pretty weird.) The two met at the Grammys several years ago but didn’t join forces until Armstrong had the itch to cover the Everly Brothers with a female vocalist. Thus was born Foreverly, an album of duets to be released on Reprise Records November 25th, right in time for the holidays. Weirdest of all, it’s going to be good, if the first single “Long Time Gone” is any indication. The cover features the close harmonies the Everlys were known for with the added dynamism of a female voice, plus Billie Joe’s killer eyeliner. Stream it below.
