Meet The Foetus/Oh The Joy
The first time I saw Brody Dalle, she was still Brody Armstrong, and The Distillers were playing one of the opening sets of Lollapalooza 2003. Her hair was filthy and her voice was a growl, and she didn’t seem to care if anyone was even listening. The last time I saw Brody Dalle, she was blonde and talking about motherhood on The Conversation, a female-driven interview show formerly on Lifetime.
A lot can happen in ten years, but Dalle remains of my absolute favorites. Yesterday she released “Meet The Foetus/Oh The Joy,” the first single off her upcoming solo debut. I can’t tell you how excited I am about this music, the first new track she’s put out since Spinnerette’s record in 2009. “Meet The Foetus” is a rock song about motherhood that turns into the mosh pit-worthy breakdown “Oh The Joy.” It’s a post-Spinnerette collaboration with Queens Of The Stone Age’s Alain Johannes featuring backing vocals from Garbage’s Shirley Manson.
Dalle’s solo album doesn’t have a release date as of yet, but this should tide us over for a while. Stream “Meet The Foetus/Oh The Joy” below.
