Casey Veggies has been one of hip-hop’s worst kept secrets for years. Veggies came into the public eye as part of Odd Future, appearing on the rap collective’s 2008 debut mixtape The Odd Future Tape. Formerly known as Custom, the LA rapper quickly found he worked best by himself, though his Odd Future background lives on in collaborations with Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt.
“Demeanor” pairs Veggies with Chi-town’s Rockie Fresh. Rockie signed with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group in 2012 but has since signed with Rostrum Records towards the end of last year. Rockie and Veggies have previously collaborated on a tape titled Fresh Veggies, which they released late in 2013.
Fans of Fresh Veggies will feel right at home with “Demeanor;” spacey production pairs well with the rappers’ lyric-centric style. The track is supported by a bouncy synth lead and crunchy drums provided by Leken Taylor & Ashton McCreight. Veggies and Fresh trade verses flaunting and posturing, conjuring images of the two cruising downtown on a Friday night. Listen below:
