Old Enough to Write a Memoir, Cool Enough for It to be Good.

The Guardian released details from Sonic Youth co-founder and all-around rock star Kim Gordon’s memoir, giving us a glimpse into the much anticipated book set for publication on February 24th. Highlights from the sneak peak include the collective dislike of Jeff Koons, Sonic Youth name changes and the invention of twerking. Read more here.

The Day the Music Died.

Today we remember one of the saddest and most recollected days in music history. Fifty-six years ago, just after midnight, a plane carrying Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson and pilot Roger Peterson fatally crashed near the city of Clear Lake, Iowa. In the middle of their Winter Dance Party tour, the young men were exhausted and filthy – choosing a plane ride over the tour bus meant a few extra hours of sleep and the promise of clean laundry. But instead, the story became that a young Don McLean delivered newspapers announcing the four deaths the following morning. So remember the music, and then hum along to American Pie.
