Charlotte Gainsbourg – Paradisco

I have a lot of girl crushes, but Charlotte Gainsbourg might just be The One. The singer/actress is super cool, classically lovely, French, and, as the daughter of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, she comes from a long line of cool, lovely French people. Back in 2009, Gainsbourg joined forces with another crush of mine, Beck Hansen, on her album IRM, and now the pair is back with Gainsbourg’s new double LP of live and unreleased material, Stage Whispers. We’ve been listening to “White Telephone” since Gainsbourg released it in August and now are equally impressed with “Paradisco,” the sumptuous dancey number—a song written and produced by Beck but that radiates the Gainsbourgian charm that keeps me awake at night crying over that wedding band on her finger.

If you can’t wait until Stage Whispers is released on December 13, you can stream two more songs—“Set Yourself on Fire” and “Out of Touch”—on (interestingly enough) Air France (the airline, not the band)’s Facebook page.
