Los Angeles quintet Cillie Barnes is blending nostalgic tones for indie connoisseurs ahead of their debut record. “RX Drugs” may ring true to the pop end of the spectrum, but only just. Each member’s tasteful background is pulled to the forefront as percussion dances lines between rock and hip hop, while vocals bleed pop sensibility that layers itself with a dark café’s acoustic strings. Subtly stream of consciousness shares this ethereal stage and teases an infinity pool of lyrical warmth.
The band’s forthcoming debut record, Cobra Lily, is out September 24th. Don’t miss it.
