Into the Valley (Original Mix Ft. Karl Dixon)
Classixx — LA-based purveyors of disco anthems with a Technicolor and, yes, classic sheen — have been doing this for a minute. For evidence, check their 2011 release on Green Label Sound, “Into the Valley,” a blissful stomper featuring crooner Karl Dixon. Now seeing release in its “Original Mix” edit on DFTD, an imprint of house powerhouse Defected with “a more diverse musical remit,” the track is back with a stripped-down, airier feel. Whereas the Dew-ified cut loped along, strung out in its midsection, it now cuts right to the chase and burns through a pulsing horn section. Dixon’s flights from purring baritone to diva-esque yelps are out in front, and by the time the first real sax break of 2014 hits, his commands to “mystify me” will be falling on deaf ears. This track clears everything up.
