It’s certainly a nice thing to see Neutral Milk Hotel’s legacy living on. Minneapolis folk rockers Communist Daughter – who take their name from the seventh track on the former’s benchmark 90s indie rock album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea – are back with a new single, “Balboa Bridge.” Although the track sonically deviates from the gritty, low-fi aesthetic of Neutral Milk Hotel, the introspective lyrics remain with an increased warm, sensual tone. Acoustic guitar chords and electric arpeggiations accompany Johnny Solomon and Molly Moore’s lead, harmonized vocals. Minimalist yet upbeat drums soon join in to lightly pick up the pace. Steep your cup of tea and listen below for some relaxation you probably need.
