Death Cab For Cutie – Underneath The Sycamore

While it has been nearly fourteen years since front man Ben Gibbard created Death Cab for Cutie in 1998, I, for one, am glad the group hasn’t strayed from their delightful indie pop sound. It isn’t hard to love “Underneath the Sycamore” on the first listen; a song coming from from DCFC’s seventh studio album, Codes and Keys. Gibbard’s voice and lyrics continue to be sweet without becoming saccharine, while the track’s melody may or may not be dangerously catchy enough to take up a week-long residency in your head. While I cringed when the perfect indie couple, Ben Gibbard and Zooey Deschanel, called it quits last year, with Codes and Keys being a pure indie dreamboat of an album, I chalk this one up as a win for Gibbard.
