Electric Guest have released the second single of the year from their sophomore album Plural. With slapping drums and a frantic bass line, “Back For Me” is much more upbeat than “Dear To Me,” which took more cues from slow-burning eighties soul. Still, both tracks share the same distinct sound of fundamentally pop songs. They draw subtle but significant influences from funk and R&B, often favoring a more stripped-down approach to busy synths and orchestral flourishes. For better or worse, these glimpses from Plural are also much sparer (though no less groovy) than their debut, Mondo, whose vocal effects and fuzzier bass bore the indelible marks of Danger Mouse’s production. Plural is out February 17 on Downtown Records. Watch below.
