Francis and the Lights – Friends (Ft. Bon Iver and Kanye West)

It’s fitting that the newest collab between Kanye West, Bon Iver and Francis and the Lights (fronted by Francis Starlite) is titled “Friends.” The glimmering new song reflects a complex web of industry friendships.

As Chance The Rapper noted on Twitter, Starlite produced his track “Summer Friends,” and Starlite’s own “Friends” is sampled on the Chance track. Too meta for you? It gets more complicated: Kanye has worked before with both Chance (on The Life of Pablo’s “Ultralight Beam”), and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon.

But even more artists were involved in “Friends” than you think: Starlite and Vernon co-wrote the song with ex-Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmanglij, BJ Burton and others.

Now back to the music. The result of all these friendly vibes is a warm, airy beat perfect for a chill night in with your closest friends. The accompanying Jake Schreier-directed video is a mesmerizing, minimalist, highly choreographed affair—seriously, who knew Starlite and Vernon had such good dance moves?
