Bombay Bicycle Club vocalist Jack Steadman takes a stab at re-producing Hozier‘s “From Eden” with a new “Hallelujah” edit. There’s a rustling background chatter throughout this take, a suggestion that our love stories do not exist on their own but live in the world, with all the mess and grime that surrounds us. The entire history of human desire since Eden takes place right in the middle of this chatter. Circling hums in the chorus and bluesy organ chords provide a perfect backdrop for a song about what happens after the fall from grace, what happens if — or when? — Eve chooses sinner over saint. With intermittent yelps of “hallelujah!” and easy, floor-to-vaulted-ceiling vocal harmonies, the edit is a celebration when the original may just have been a statement. Stream it below.
