Hundred Waters – Wave to Anchor

Hundred Waters 1
A significant departure from the brooding “Blanket Me” and the skeletal “Fingers,” Hundred Waters‘ latest single is a shimmering pop song. Where the previous tracks crescendo and churn, “Wave to Anchor” bounces along to radio-friendly piano. The sulky lyrics – “And who, who have I lived for?” – contrast oddly with the lush, upbeat synths: too bright to be blasé, too sulky for irony, it winds up rather emotionally empty. Still, though “Wave to Anchor” may not do the ennui dance as effectively as, say, Tennis‘ recent “No Exit,” it’s a worthwhile (and eminently danceable) attempt. Communicating is out this Thursday on OWSLA.
