After Life After Party
If you thought Montreal producer Jacques Greene had finished with fashion when he dropped the eerie, baptism-of-a-sneakerhead clip for “1 4 Me,” this might come as a surprise: Vogue Magazine’s website premiered the title track from his After Life After Party EP (out last week on LuckyMe). Not to go against its author’s wishes, but I’d say it belongs here in the pre-hereafter — or is the afterparty to the afterlife really the post-hereafter? However the semantics shake out, the track’s a fascinating, driving mix of dark and light, with Greene’s classic rave impulses swirling amidst a darkly oozing bass and heavy, halftime-techno rhythm. The hands-aloft synths shining through the murk will mix well in sweaty back-room DJ sets and swanky office soirees alike, and maybe in some version of what’s next as well.
