Producer Karl Lennar may be from Germany, but his musical spirit fits Miami far more than Munich. Lennar makes sexy electro music, sitting somewhere between instrumental synthpop and house music. His latest release “Diamonds” is just begging to be blasted from a car radio on a sultry, summer night. It’s six minutes of thick synths, a pounding beat and various beeps and electronic noises. Lennar confidently mixes these sounds and lets the breaks give listeners a time to catch their breath before dropping back in for more. Yes, there’s been an explosion of ’80s inspired electronic music in the last few years, thanks in no small part to the success of Drive and its white scorpion jacket aesthetic. The results have been mixed as style is no guarantee of substance, but thankfully, “Diamonds” has plenty of both. Give it a listen below.
