Australian duo KIlo‘s hypnotic “Downfall” debuted about a month ago, but the band have only just released an accompanying video. The song itself is an elegant piece of synthpop and the video, which has Chloe Kaul wandering from Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast, is a pleasant though predictable procession of longing glances and vague metaphors. That’s largely the point: the objective, fittingly, is light atmospherics rather than cinematic grandeur. These days visual clichés are everywhere in indietronica, but “Downfall” manages to avoid being boring, catching fire slowly like the fields at the video’s close.
