[Ed. Note: Laura Lopez, who shot some photos for us at our Cantora Showcase, recaps Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr’s last stop in DC.]
Last Friday, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. (Joshua Epstein and Daniel Zott) delivered a checkered-flag worthy performance to a sold out show at The Red Palace. The Detroit-based duo took the stage in their familiar NASCAR pit crew unisuits, but quickly de-robed to reveal three-piece business suits, with a proclamation: “Don’t you guys know we do this for the money? We make so much money, it makes sleeping on peoples’ floors possible!”
Their set included tracks from their Horse Power EP like “Vocal Chords”, “Nothing But Our Love” and the whistle-laden, crowd favorite “Simple Girl”. DEJJ threw in a few tracks from their upcoming release, It’s A Corporate World, such as “Skeletons”, during which the band invited fans on stage to sing along, all while donning plastic skeleton masks. Crowd participation came to a head during “God Only Knows” — with a venue-wide dance party and a full-on bubble machine.
Armed with a winning combination of delightfully catchy songs and an electric live presence, catching a Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. show is a must. More photos after the jump.
