This ain’t your daddy’s ode to an evening dip in the pool, all gentle and nostalgic and what not. Lovelife wants you to know there’s a dark side to the deep end, and they’ve got a powder keg of a noir-wave break-up anthem to prove it. Like much of the young group’s oeuvre, this fresh cut from the group’s third EP, Stateless, seeks to answer that age-old question, “can minor-key malaise still rock a party?”
The answer is an emphatic “yes.” This is synthpop cranked up to 11, and its maximalism fits the lyrical content like a glove: in youth, the gravity of romance gone wrong has a pull like nothing else. So mash that F12 key, type the name of your first summer love in your Facebook search bar, get your towels ready and try not to worry about shrinkage.
