Lamn (Prod. Left Brain)
There’s something cathartic in the simplicity of a wordless vocal sample. It’s what made “Mask and Da Glock“ one of the best dirty South rap songs of all time. It’s what made the “weird trap” revival of the 2010s so ambient-but-hard. And it’s what makes “Lamn” one of Madeintyo’s best songs to date.
Tokyo’s Sremmurd-esque flow is infectious enough as it is and his paradoxically confident and self-critical lyrical approach is highlighted in its barest form over this Left Brain beat. The first snare entrance is grin-worthy, the second beat drop is stand-up-and-jump-worthy. At first Tokyo seemed like he may just be another one-hit “weird dude” rapper. But at this point, his talent and persistent output have put him on the age-old rap radar of “where will he go next?”
