Phoenix – Entertainment (Blood Orange Remix)

Last week, in a welcome departure from the de rigeur club remix routine, Phoenix handed their new single “Entertainment” over to fuzz rock legends Dinosaur Jr for a soul-baring guitar ballad makeover.

The second official remix, released today, offers another surprising spin on the track – this time from experimental bedroom pop savant Blood Orange. Dev Hynes layers his signature bleeding heart synths, twinkling pianos and skittering guitars over vocals provided by his latest collaborators, Mutya Keisha Siobahn. The London girl group’s arresting harmonies bring the track’s bittersweet lyrics, papered over with glossy electronics in the original version, into stark relief. Hearing “Entertainment” reinterpreted by such diverse remixers helps to drive home what a great piece of songwriting Thomas Mars & company delivered with this lead single off their eagerly anticipated fifth LP, Bankrupt!.

Phoenix’s Bankrupt! is set for an April 23rd release via Glassnote.
