LA outfit Saint Motel won over the hearts and ears of bloggers and listeners alike with their infectious, horn-driven single “My Type” this summer. The Caribbean tinge and unique tenor/falsetto balance draws comparisons to contemporaries like Kisses or Capital Cities, though their newest release puts them on a platform of their own. Clearly feeling the need to outdo themselves, Saint Motel have decided to tackle one of the most captivating and genre-bending tracks of the last few years: Major Lazer’s incomparable “Get Free.”
Saint Motel replaces Diplo’s slow-burning backbeat and Amber Coffman’s vocal range with a steady dose of handclaps, rhythm guitar, and frontman A/J Jackson’s signature tenor croon. The result is something altogether new, which is the best you can hope for when attempting to cover such an influential track. Have a listen to the premiere of their take on “Get Free” below.
