NYC via Switzerland avant folk artist Sam Himself has released a quietly powerful new track called “July.” In duet with Lynn Thu Tun, the two effortlessly dance around and through talk of death. Instead of being morbid, it’s actually quite comforting, as the two take the voice of someone who has just died and is assuring their loved ones that everything is going to be alright. Sweet backing vocals courtesy of Denitia Odigie and Teeny and Lizzy Lieberson (of TEEN) give the track a significant fullness. Check it out below.

Here’s what Sam Himself had to say about the new track:

When someone you love passes away, you share that loss with those around you. That helps you cope, but it also adds their pain to your own because you feel for them, too. I wrote this song to comfort the people who went through that experience with me, taking on the voice of the person we all lost together.
