No money for an exotic summer vacation? That’s cool. NYC duo Sofi Tukker will take you around the world and back with their debut track “Drinkee,” a lush electronic escape featuring Portuguese poetry sung over punchy drums (bongos included), a distorted guitar line and a smattering of bells — just to name a few. Working on The Knocks‘ boutique label HeavyRoc Music, the Brown University grads seem to be following in the footsteps of their bosses’ genre-bending techniques, mixing everything from house to pop to bossa nova to create a sound that would be equally at home at a world music festival as it would be on the dancefloor. The fact that the lyrics are unintelligible to us non-Portuguese speaking commoners isn’t really an issue. We’ll be dancing to this track blissfully unaware of its meaning all summer long.
