Superhumanoids – Black Widow (Southern Shores Remix)

Screen Shot 2013-11-06 at 8.28.50 AM

It’s tough to choose a favorite Cascine artist, but everything about Southern Shores — from their name to their album art to their transcendent balearic pop — embodies the hazy, blissed-out aesthetic of the wonderful London/NY indie label. This collaboration between the enigmatic Vancouver production duo and fellow future pop wizards Superhumanoids┬áis about as cosmic as it gets. Sampled soul vocals and the somber bleating of processional horns play counterpoint to Southern Shores’ breezy sonic trademarks: fluttering drums, locomotive rolling basslines and lush, maximal melodies. It’s a track that merges experimental collage music and dance pop to produce a glorious, rawly expressive burst of genreless sound recalling early Avalanches, Caribou and the Books. Stream it below.
