Superhumanoids – Black Widow (Southern Shores Remix)

Screen Shot 2013-11-06 at 8.28.50 AM

It’s tough to choose a favorite Cascine artist, but everything about Southern Shores — from their name to their album art to their transcendent balearic pop — embodies the hazy, blissed-out aesthetic of the wonderful London/NY indie label. This collaboration between the enigmatic Vancouver production duo and fellow future pop wizards Superhumanoids is about as cosmic as it gets. Sampled soul vocals and the somber bleating of processional horns play counterpoint to Southern Shores’ breezy sonic trademarks: fluttering drums, locomotive rolling basslines and lush, maximal melodies. It’s a track that merges experimental collage music and dance pop to produce a glorious, rawly expressive burst of genreless sound recalling early Avalanches, Caribou and the Books. Stream it below.
