Tame Impala‘s most recent album Lonerism demonstrated the Australian outfit’s deft ability to create dynamic psych rock soundscapes. On the official rework of album opener “Be Above It,” Erol Alkan transforms the band’s spacey tendencies into a thumping dance track. Synths of varying pitches fire over and over, complementing the whispering chant of “Gotta be above it.” As much as there is going on during the song, it’s the sections of minimal sound that are the most striking. At times, the layers fall away and nothing remains except for the vocals or the backbeat, a brief chance to catch your breath before the song kicks back up again.

Check out the rework below and watch out for the “Be Above It (Erol Alkan Rework)” on 12″ vinyl and digitally, out December 6th through Modular People.
