The Dirty Nil – Fuckin’ Up Young

Vancouver’s Japandroids have been shooting up best of 2012 lists on the heels of the duo’s latest dose of gritty ’90s punk revival, Celebration Rock. Their Canadian compatriots in the Dirty Nil see the duo’s bet and double down by tossing fuzzy alternative-rock guitars, a sneering delivery, and plenty of volume into the mix. “Fuckin’ Up Young” utilizes most of the band’s toolkit including steady, heavy beats offset by sharp guitar riffs, mid-tempo’d melodies that get shattered by caustic outbursts, and, best of all, singer Luke Bentham’s wicked, biting, acidic wail. The music is giant, messy, visceral and absolutely unapologetic. The threesome recently released a four-song mixtape that’s available for free on the Dirty Nil’s Bandcamp until September 24th.
