The Flaming Lips – The Castle

After last year’s polarizing collaboration with Miley Cyrus, The Flaming Lips return to form with “The Castle,” a dreamy, psych-rock blason that compares a nameless woman to butterflies, rainbows, and castles. Gentle backing vocals, fluttering synths, and plodding drums provide a fitting atmosphere for the blithe, fairytale lyrics. Despite the track’s carefree vibe, though, it’s not without a dash of darkness: after likening the woman’s brain to a castle, Wayne Coyne sings that “the castle can never be rebuilt again.” Their upcoming album, Oczy Mlody, is due out January 13, 2017. Listen to “The Castle” below.
