The Shilohs – Private Lives

This post was curated and written by the band Tennis. You can catch them performing live tonight, October 8th in Washington, DC at the Rock ‘N Roll Hotel. Tickets are available HERE.

Every once in a while we stumble upon a band that seems to belong to a different era; the occasional artist that you know would have been much more at home in the 60’s or 70’s. More rarely, there are bands that rather than harken back to a previous era, seem to bring that era to you. The Shilohs are one of those rare bands that bring the profound earnestness of early rock and roll right to you. They give us a chance to rediscover the revolutionary qualities of simple sentiments in our own way, in our own time. They are sentimental–romantic even, but completely serious.

We had the privilege of meeting Jonny Payne from The Shilohs after a strange series of events required our smuggling him across the Canadian border (I’ll leave it at that.) Since that fateful day, we’ve been fans of he and his bandmates work, and are pleased to share it with you here, now.
