The War On Drugs (TWOD) reminds me of a grown-up version of DOM. Where DOM lacks cohesion and sound development – TWOD thrive. The two bands are on the similar page in the drone department with airs of synth floating around, but there is something distinctly more Americana about TWOD. Formed in Philly in 2005, the band signed to Secretly Canadian after self-releasing their debut EP. Today, TWOD releases Slave Ambient to the masses. “It’s Your Destiny” is one of the better tracks off of the album and exemplifies the sense of sloppy refinement that has defined their sound. Kurt Vile was a founding member of the band, but left before the recording of Slave Ambient to pursue his solo career.
