Shadows And Light
Hugo Manuel’s side project is better than your main project. The Oxford-based producer has just unveiled a gorgeous six-track release under a seasonally appropriate new name: Turks & Caicos. Manuel, best known for the sweetly nostalgic R&B-inflected dreamwave of Chad Valley, wades here into mid-tempo tropical disco territory. In a manner evoking recent releases from Classixx and Todd Terje, The Turks & Caicos EP is comprised of shapeshifting, dreamlike tracks that unfold their goodness in blissful and unexpected ways. “Shadows And Light” feels almost like the balearic reincarnation of Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up,” with a slow pulsing beat that cuts through an airy mix featuring the distant noise of overheard conversation. Stream it below and get excited for the next Chad Valley album, forthcoming on Cascine.
