Brisbane garage-poppers Velociraptor have released a new single in advance their upcoming self-titled debut album. “Sneakers” fits perfectly into the band’s sound of fuzzy, rock tunes mixed with ’60s jangly pop guitars and swinging rhythms. The song subtly shifts between light sock-hop fare and straight-ahead rock beats. While the band has said that it is dedicated to “anyone who has ever worn sneakers,” the deep, affected vocal croon of “So you still dream of me / so don’t you want to be my baby? / I messed up and so did you / so one more time / just one more time now” hints that it’s also made for anyone who’s made mistakes and desperately wants one more chance.
