Yellow Ostrich – The Shakedown

ATG has thrice before presented you with the musical stylings of one Alex Schaaf. The lead singer and guitarist for Yellow Ostrich came out with The Mistress in 2010. Describing the album as just “a guy in a bedroom,” he soon thereafter recruited multi-instrumentalist Jon Natchez and drummer Michael Tapper for his touring band and things clicked. After releasing the acclaimed track “Marathon Runner,” things have started heating up for the trio. Yellow Ostrich’s latest single, “The Shakedown,” comes off their upcoming Strange Land LP and is a little harder than the band’s usual fare. Driven by some heavily-distorted guitar and a pit-worthy solo, “The Shakedown” is a good high-energy tune that’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Strange Land comes out March 6th on Barsuk Records. Fellow DC’ers can catch them at Black Cat on April 11th.
