Ain't Nobody Like You
The vinyl crackle that begins Yung Bae’s “Ain’t Nobody Like You” sounds near-genuine while prefacing a warped segment from Quincy Jones’ “The Dude”. A jazzy, looping horn and grooving bassline jostle against bottom-heavy, tightly-compressed percussion, molding the original sample into a hot slab of future-funk. Nestled in the middle of this is a brief vocal feature by producer Josh Pan. The backing beat then becomes the vehicle for Pan’s unexpected quoting of Shaggy’s “It Wasn’t Me.” Quincy Jones and pop-reggae hooks make for odd bedfellows, but it thankfully works — and it moves.
